In my 20’s and early 30’s, I loved to wear all sorts of super-fancy holiday attire. Not just formal wear, but I had sequined blouses and highly detailed sweaters specifically for Christmas and New Year’s. No ugly sweaters here – just gorgeous, glamorous, festive pretties.
Becoming a mother changed my perspective. Well, a little. Since all our children were born during this holiday season, for three Christmases in four years, I had teensy babies, and sequins and newborns don’t really go together. At least, they didn’t for me.
As the years have gone on, and I have no teensy babies any more, I could go back to my glitter and glam holiday attire. But the truth is, at this point, I’m a lot more interested in different. I still want great looking clothing, and I want it to look good on me, not just the models. (And, of course, budget friendly is always a plus.) But, honestly, more than anything, I don’t want a cookie cutter look. I don’t want something off the rack that I can wear alongside a couple hundred other Birmingham women. I want something unique.
When StyleWe sent a message to me, I went to their site not quite sure what to expect. Now, I’m a fan!
On StyleWe, you will find hundreds of designs and styles. I simple adore how they come from small designers, so there aren’t thousands of each garment being offered for sale in your home town. (More on this later.)
The designs run a wide range – from fun and funky to formal. There are quite a few garments that offer you fantastic flexibility – which I’d be comfortable wearing to drop off kids to camp or school in the morning, then wear straight to a meeting… and look completely appropriate in both settings.
And the prices? I kind of expected them to be pricey – let’s face it: limited offerings from small designers… I heard cha-ching. But instead, these prices are competitive – or beat – prices I see in the mall. It’s getting designer clothing at family-budget prices.
If you’re looking for something special for New Year’s Eve, or maybe you need a place for some nice threads where you can use the gift cards you’ll get at Christmas – go check out their site. They have such a huge span of offerings. Here’s my advice to you:
- Use the site filters. You can sort not only by garment type (top, sweaters, bottoms, dresses), but style (maxi, midi, mini) and price point.
Carefully check the sizing on each different garment. Because these garments all come from different designers, the sizes do not measure the same. I found some garments where I needed an XL, some where I needed a 4X. The dress I’m wearing here is a 3X. You really need to check the sizing chart that’s on the listing page of the garment you want. (For what it’s worth, if I go into most standard stores, I fit best in an XL.) This is one place where it has nothing to do with how you think of yourself, it’s just whatever the designer decided when they created their line.
- If you really want a garment or accessory, order it. Now. Seriously. Because these are smaller clothing lines, the inventory isn’t what most of us are used to. I had looked at the site prior to Black Friday… but when I went to look for the garment I’d hoped to get, it was gone – as were many others. StyleWe does restock fairly quickly, but the new listings are just that, new. You may not find a garment you’d hoped to get (but you are sure to find plenty of new favorites.)
- Look around. When I say there are thousands of looks on StyleWe, don’t think I’m exaggerating. While you’re sure to find something that appeals to you fairly quickly, what I love is all the of unexpected styles you’ll discover and love.
