IMG_5726Really great devotional. It’s targeted for young ladies in their teens, from the look, but I have to admit: this devotional appeals a great deal to this very busy middle aged working mom.

The illustrations are lovely – they are simple, both in design and in color palate, but that only enhaces the beauty of the images items. With doves and vining leaves, there’s a sense of God’s loving presence in creation around us.

IMG_5735The book contains 365 daily devotions (of course), which are excellent. Each focuses on a verse or short passage. Normally, I am not a big fan of studying verses isolated from their scriptural context, but this devotional does a great job of looking at the intent of the verse.

Here is a statement of truth; now, what does this say about how we are to be and to live?

Day 103 is a perfect example. Focusing in on the commandment “You shall not murder,” the devotion for the day cuts the reader no slack. There’s an acknowledgement that it might be easy to gloss over this commandment – what could be easier that to “avoid” murdering someone? But the devotional asks the reader to look into her heart, pointing out Jesus’ words about anger and how that is murder within the heart. Passages for reflection are pointed, yet simple to contemplate. Each day’s page includes three or four lines for writing personal thoughts.

IMG_5736I love the thought put into these reflections, but I also love how short they are. Here is a devotional that is quick, but also contains high quality reflections, whose truths surpass any given age range.
